If you have a used vehicle you bought in Los Angeles, then you can probably get away with buying used parts. Just make sure that the used parts you buy are high-end and not cheap. Low-end used parts are more hassle than they are worth. If you are going to go used, you might as well get the best used parts that you can.
You usually go to the car mechanic when there is a problem with your car or a car part in particular. A good mechanic will charge you for just fixing up the problem. You usually leave your car at the mechanic for about a day or two. But a bad mechanic won't entirely fix the problem, and they will end up overcharging you. That is why it is good to look into mechanics before you have an issue with your car.
This is not the case with shopping for car parts online. Many websites that sell car parts have advanced search options. You can search through their databases for the exact part for a car using the model, make and year as search criteria. Such a search can be finished within seconds as opposed to the hours that may be required to find that part offline.
People tend to be a bit worried about sourcing parts or things that they can't fit themselves, or they think that if they were to try to save money by supplying a car part to their local garage for fitting, that they would offend the garage. One way to look at it is the analogy of taking some fresh fish round to your local restaurant and asking them if you can dine there for less if they cook the fish you brought in.
Know the car component that you need. Nothing could be worse than purchasing a car part only to find out that it doesn't fit. As much as possible, when you go to the store, bring the part that needs replacement to make sure that you get exactly what you need.
